As the crisp winds of November usher in the cozy embrace of winter, The Toasty Farmers Market is back with exciting news! On November 11th, 2023, at 11 a.m., the Toasty Farmers Market will unveil its Opening Day in a brand new location at Fireforge Crafted Beer on Irvine Street, marking a significant shift from its beloved home at Brewery 85. This change is a pivotal moment in the market’s history, and it all began with a vision that blossomed in 2015.
A Vision Takes Root: From Brewery 85 to The Toasty Farmer
Back in 2015, the owner of Brewery 85, Will McCameron, had a brilliant idea: why not host a local farmers market right at his brewery? His vision caught the attention of Adrienne Hawkins, the creative force behind the Travelers Rest Farmers Market at Trailblazer Park. After dedicating years to the Travelers Rest Farmers Market, Hawkins was ready for a new adventure.“I was excited about creating a winter farmers market in Greenville, a space where farmers and artisans could thrive during the off-season,” she reflects.
It was during a stroll through Brewery 85 that the name“The Toasty Farmer” was coined, capturing the warm and welcoming atmosphere that Hawkins aimed to create. For seven years, Brewery 85 served as the nurturing home for The Toasty Farmers Market until its doors closed early in 2023.
“It was sad to say goodbye to our home for seven years,” admits Hawkins, but the promise of an exciting new location quickly emerged. Brewery 85’s Will McCameron suggested partnering with Brian Cendrowski, the owner of Fireforge Crafted Beer, and the decision was a no-brainer. The dedication to the community, passion, and high-quality craft at Fireforge made it the perfect new home. Hawkins notes,“We gained a partnership with the tight-knit community of businesses surrounding Fireforge who wanted to support the market, aligning perfectly with our mission to create and grow community.”
A Fresh Beginning in Downtown Greenville
The new location at Fireforge Crafted Beer opens doors to a world of possibilities. With over 20 new vendors joining the market, the downtown location promises to infuse a fresh sense of community into the urban landscape. As Hawkins explains,“The winter market will be based in Fireforge Brewery and will span the entire street on Irvine, partnering with non-profit Spirit of Greenville, Stone Family Properties, Sum Bar, and Coffee Coffee.” Market-goers can look forward to a unique experience that includes high-quality coffee, delicious lunches and treats from Fireforge Kitchen and Sum Bar, food trucks, and locally crafted brews every Saturday. It’s like a reunion each year as the best vendors from all around gather for the winter farmers market.
A Bounty of Local Goodness
With over 50 local vendors each week, market-goers are in for a treat. From incredible seafood fresh from the coast courtesy of Broadwater Shrimp to the best pastured beef, poultry, and pork from local legends at Jubilee Farms, and golden honey from Miss Bee Haven Honey Bones, there’s something for everyone. Root + Earth brings wild foraged mushrooms to the table, making it a haven for food enthusiasts and explorers.
